Fiat Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling up with Petrol in a Diesel Fiat is a well-known problem. And exactly what you want to do about it is based on several different things. Assuming you would like to know what to do to fix it then keep on reading.
Here are the main factors to think about when determining whether to have it drained:

  1. What amount of Petrol did you put in the Fiat, bearing in mind that the fuel capacity of your Fiat Linea Multijet is in most cases about 45 litres?
    1. A small quantity of Petrol, something like 2.25 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Linea Multijet will in most situations not necessarily be a major problem. Experience has demonstrated to us that anything less than 2.25 litres (which is close to 5% of the whole fuel tank volume) is often able to be sufficiently diluted simply by completely filling up the rest of the tank with Diesel.
It is very unusual to encounter a car having problems because of under 5% wrong fuel contamination. Bear in mind that it's uncommon - in no way impossible to encounter. There are a few automobiles that will not endure any level of contamination whatsoever.
    2. In between 2.25 and 4.5 litres of Petrol in the Fiat (from 5 to 10%) is really a 50/50 situation. Our practical experience demonstrates that as many drivers get away with this as those people who break down. When you are trying to decide whether to chance it and basically top it up bear in mind that it is very much like gambling all of it on black - you have got a 50/50 possibility of it working out.
    3. Anything more than 4.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel Linea Multijet ought to promptly be drained as your probability of getting away with that level of contamination is probably lower than one in fifty - extremely huge odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel Fiat and drove it: Have you spotted any kind of performance problems ever since putting the wrong fuel in the Linea Multijet? If so, have it emptied irrespective of the amount of Petrol or the contamination percentage. Proceeding to run driving a vehicle that is already starting to suffer from the consequences of wrong fuel contamination will just end up in increasing amounts of damage being done to your fuel system.
  3. Do you need assurance?
Then simply just get it removed. Regardless of the contamination percentage, there is inevitably some amount of threat caused by driving a Diesel engine on Diesel contaminated with the wrong fuel. Possible outcomes of driving on the incorrect fuel include the motor refusing to start, running lumpy, decrease in power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, damaged or bunged injectors, and so forth. These are a few of the most common Petrol in Diesel warning signs, and should you observe any of them stop and get it drained as soon as possible.

It can. However, if the problem is caught and remedied quickly the risks will be minimal. Of the 1,500 vehicles we attend every month, less than 0.5% have suffered and substantial damage requiring parts replacement.

Putting Super Unleaded, or Shell V-Power, BP Ultimate Unleaded, etc, will have the exact same effect as putting regular unleaded petrol in your diesel car and will need to be drained out and flushed.

Will getting you to do a fuel drain void my warranty?

Answer

No! The EU Block Exemption Regulations clearly state that "the work can be carried out by as long as that garage uses manufacturer approved parts and correctly follows the manufacturer's service schedule."

Can I top it up with Diesel and add some 2-stroke oil?

Answer

This might work on some vehicles in some cases, but in the majority on instances it won't and you risk damaging the Lambda sensors as well as fuel pump and injectors, just as a regular misfuel.
