BMW Fuel Drain

ABOUT

Filling Petrol in a Diesel BMW is a very common mistake to make. And what you have to do about it is determined by a number of things. If you would like to find out what you need to do to sort it out then stay with me.
Let us discuss the most important variables to consider whenever figuring out whether or not to get your car drained:

  1. Exactly how much Petrol did you put in to the BMW, taking into consideration that the fuel tank capacity of your BMW 530d is normally roughly 70 litres?
    1. A small quantity of Petrol, something like 3.5 litres of Petrol in a Diesel 530d will usually not necessarily be a major problem. Experience has proven to us that anything less than 3.5 litres (which is approximately 5% of the whole fuel tank volume) is very often able to be adequately diluted through thoroughly filling the rest of the tank with the appropriate fuel.
It's quite unusual to find a vehicle suffering from problems because of below 5% incorrect fuel contamination. Remember that it is very uncommon - certainly not impossible to encounter. You will discover a number of cars that don't endure any level of contamination whatsoever.
    2. Anywhere between 3.5 and 7 litres of Petrol in the BMW (5 to 10%) is more of a 50/50 situation. Our working experience has shown that as many drivers get away with it as those people who break down. When you are figuring out whether or not to chance it and simply top it up recognise that it is very much like gambling everything on black - you have a 50/50 chance of it working out.
    3. Anything over 7 litres of Petrol in your Diesel 530d ought to right away be drained seeing as your likelihood of getting away with this amount of contamination is more than likely less than one in fifty - definitely big odds.
  2. Put Petrol in a Diesel BMW and drove it: Have you seen any kind of performance issues ever since putting the wrong fuel in your 530d? In that case, get it removed irrespective of the amount of Petrol or the contamination ratio. Continuing to run driving an automobile that is currently beginning to suffer from the consequences of fuel contamination will just be responsible for more harm affecting your fuel system parts.
  3. Do you need assurance?
Then simply just get it emptied. No matter the contamination ratio, there is inevitably some extent of risk in connection with running a Diesel vehicle on fuel contaminated with Petrol. Likely outcomes of driving on the incorrect fuel normally include the engine refusing to start, running lumpy, losing power, wearing of the high-pressure pump, worn or bunged injectors, and so on. These are some of the commonest Petrol in Diesel symptoms, and if you recognise any of them then cease driving and get it drained as soon as possible.
